Pull loose nails from clapboard siding. Cutting clapboards issue 67 when remodeling or building additions it is often necessary to cut existing clapboard siding along a vertical line. Run your siding stock across the table saw with one 3 4 inch edge down cutting a bevel along its length. Otherwise insert small wooden wedges or a screwdriver up under the siding to pry it out slightly then cut the nails with a hacksaw.

Keep the boards pressed against the table and the fence and feed them slowly to avoid chipping and splits. Problem is the saw s shoe wants to hang up on the protruding lower edges of the clapboards which in turn makes the blade dip into the sheathing underneath it. Use flat bar to carefully pry up the siding course above. Re siding traditionally most beveled clapboards were layered.
